On today's show, Michelle Pierce MA, LMHC, RYT, Lead Clinician & Director of Clinical Programming for MEDA in Newton, MA joins us to talk about prevention of eating related issues and what we can all do to help reduce the prevalence of eating disorders. (Meda:www.medainc.org)
Every 62 minutes a person dies from an eating disorder, where eating disorders are the number one leading cause of mental health related deaths. Some possible factors, explored and discussed in today's show, include untrue and unhealthy beliefs, and pressures of unrealistic expectations with our relationships and judgments with our bodies, and with food. Additionally there may be inappropriate association of these beliefs and pressures to self worth and self identity, as we are told from social media, diet culture, and even our own narratives.
So how can we make an impact to help prevent this in our own lives, our loved ones lives, and culturally? Through our need to connect, and need to support. Through education, conversation and relationships. Find our more, and join the conversation with Lucia and Michelle now on WellSeekers.

When you consider non-reports, males and eating related issues like binge eating, the number can be much more significant. So how do we know if our child is struggling with an eating related issues? Eating related issues are a part of almost everyone's lives in some way.
According to statistics (anad.org/education-and-awaren…isorders-statistics/), at least 30 million people of all ages and of all genders suffer from a clinical eating disorder, with estimates much higher for those that go unreported.
